Infra

Challenge

Cloud computing and infrastructure management, managing access control and administration within complex systems like Kubernetes and AWS presents significant challenges. Users often struggle with the complexities of these tools, which can lead to inefficiencies and increased operational overhead. Recognizing this, the goal was to develop Infra; a solution designed to streamline infrastructure management and simplify identity access, enhancing overall user experience.

As lead product designer, I was tasked with researching and creating a user-friendly interface that would simplify the management of complex systems and improve operational efficiency. This involved conducting extensive research, developing detailed personas, and collaborating with engineers to create a scalable and user-centric product. By focusing on user needs and iterative development, we aimed to deliver a solution that would enhance user satisfaction and operational efficiency.

Research

To address these challenges, we embarked on comprehensive market research and analysis. This involved conducting user interviews and gathering insights into the pain points experienced by users of infrastructure management tools. Our research highlighted a critical need for a more intuitive and user-friendly solution that could simplify access control and streamline the management of complex systems. We synthesized this information to create a clear picture of the user needs and the gaps in existing solutions.

Product Development

The development of Infra began with the creation of detailed personas, derived from extensive user and product research. These personas represented the diverse users within the development lifecycle who would interact with Infra. We focused on key aspects such as CLI, UI, APIs, and documentation to build models that visualized system objects and application structures.

Through a process of prototyping, wireframes, and user interface design, we iterated on Infra to ensure it addressed user needs effectively. Collaboration with engineers was crucial, as we contributed to code development to ensure the product’s scalability and testability. Post-development, we conducted further user interviews to gather feedback and continue refining the product. This iterative approach allowed us to align Infra with user expectations and improve its functionality based on real-world usage.

Brand Development

Defining Infra’s brand identity was a collaborative effort involving stakeholders, customer interviews, and engagement with executive leadership. We used mood boards, experiments, and diagrams to shape the brand’s vision. By analyzing the competitive landscape and drawing artistic inspirations, we developed a unique brand motif that resonated with our target audience. The brand’s graphical representation utilized space and galaxy analogies to create a compelling and memorable visual identity.

Project Impact

Infra successfully addressed the challenges of infrastructure management and access control by providing a streamlined, user-friendly interface. Its design not only simplified navigation but also reduced the time and effort required for managing complex systems. By focusing on user needs, iterative development, and a strong brand identity, Infra emerged as a valuable tool that enhanced operational efficiency and user satisfaction in managing Kubernetes and AWS environments.
